THE SCULPTURES OF ATAÚRO ISLAND
In January 20017, David was commissioned to design the exhibition identity and catalogue for the show ‘The Sculptures of Atauro Island’ at the Charles Darwin University Art Collection & Art Gallery (Australia). The exhibition took place between March and July 2017 and featured sculptures from the CDU Art Collection, the National Collection of Timor-Leste in Dili, the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, and the private collections of Maria do Céu Lopes da Silva from Dili, Michael Abbott AO QC from Adelaide and John Graham from Melbourne.
The exhibition was put together by curator Joanna Barrkman in collaboration with Timor Aid and the Secretary of State for Arts & Culture in Timor-Leste. Two documentaries produced by David in Atauro island were featured as part of the exhibition: Wawata Topu – Mermaids of Timor-Leste and Ro’o Putin Hatin. Click here for a review by Artlink.
The exhibition travelled back to Timor-Leste for a show curated by Rosalia Soares† in February 2019 at the Timorese Resistance Archive & Museum. David was commissioned to design the exhibition identity and re-design the original catalogue into a trilingual publication (see above).
