DOGGY STYLE
Doggy Style is a collection of dogs’ portraits taken in February 2006, while visiting a musher in the city of Bettles Field, right in the heart of Alaska. These dogs are specially trained under extreme weather conditions (sometimes at -50C) with the purpose to compete at the Yukon Quest, the 1000 mile international sled dog race. The pack has a mixed breed of Alaskan Husky, Malamute, Chinook, Greenland Dog, Siberian Husky and other breeds. These dogs are bred for endurance as the Yukon Quest is a long distance race; each dog has a particular title according to their position in the team relative to the sled. These include leaders, swing dogs, team dogs, and wheelers. The title and position in the sled is chosen by the musher and depending on the dog’s character and strength. A sled carries between 11 and 16 dogs. Not all dogs finish the race.
